We are all partnering to elevate 9/11 as National Day of Service and Remembrance, as called for in the Serve America Act. And we are aiming to make Sept. 11, 2011 (the 10-year anniversary) the largest single day of service in the United States. Ever.

Founders aim to organize the single largest day of service in U.S. history on the 10th anniversary of 9/11, in 2011

 

President Obama to Officially Proclaim 9/11 a National Day of Service and Remembrance This Year

What: In April 2009, President Barack Obama signed into law the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act authorizing the establishment of 9/11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance. The President has said he will officially designate the day as such by Proclamation this year, and has announced that his United We Serve (serve.gov) campaign will culminate with service projects throughout the nation on September 11, 2009.

At this press event the founders of MyGoodDeed, which in 2001 first conceived of the idea of establishing 9/11 as a National Day of Service (911dayofservice.org), will join with the leaders of ServiceNation, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, and the Corporation for National & Community Service to jointly announce and unveil plans to build widespread national support for marking the September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance in 2009 and beyond. The goal is to organize the single largest day of citizen service in U.S. history on September 11, 2011, the 10th anniversary of 9/11.


MyGoodDeed will announce select national partnerships and funding relationships, preview its newly launched website – 911dayofservice.org – and reveal other important programs and events planned for this year.
