Digital Marketing Coordinator – Opportunity Nation

Be The Change, Inc. seeks a dynamic, entrepreneurial, experienced Digital Marketing Coordinator to support its growing needs related to the Opportunity Nation campaign. The Digital Marketing Coordinator will coordinate the production of a wide variety of relevant content and drive the execution of Opportunity Nation’s social media campaigns in support of Opportunity Nation and its Coalition. This position will contribute to the optimization, development, and implementation of the overall digital strategy and administer social media content; serve as the project manager for digital initiatives and multimedia projects; design and assist with editing monthly newsletters, and compile social media analytics reports.

This position will play a pivotal role in shaping our rapidly growing marketing and outreach efforts. We’re looking for a high energy, passionate candidate with exceptional marketing strategy, communication, project, and people management skills. As part of the Communications team, this role will be focused on coordinating the full scope of social media marketing including strategy, storytelling, and research.

Opportunity Nation is a bipartisan, national, entrepreneurial nonprofit run with the urgency of a political campaign, with offices in Boston and Washington D.C.

Opportunity Nation’s diverse coalition of more than 350 businesses, nonprofits, educational institutions and community leaders works to expand economic mobility, particularly by strengthening education and career pathways for young adults. Opportunity Nation seeks to close the country’s widening opportunity gap by amplifying the work of its coalition members, advocating for policy and private sector actions, and releasing the annual Opportunity Index.

Primary responsibilities include:

The Opportunity Nation team seeks a dynamic and detail-oriented full-time Digital Marketing Coordinator who can articulate the campaign’s evolving message across platforms to diverse audiences and assist in creating a digital strategy to position Opportunity Nation in the forefront of issues related to economic opportunity. This includes:

Leading on creative social media strategy, and developing targeted social media campaigns, and social advertising. Manage online communities and foster the development of key relationships and information sharing. Manage comprehensive content calendar across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn while maintaining a consistent voice for the organization and our Coalition members.

Developing digital and printed marketing materials, web page content, e-mails, newsletters, decks and other marketing tools to empower the organization to clearly and persuasively communicate Opportunity Nation’s mission and messaging.

Managing web content on and Ensuring all websites are constantly up-to-date with new content and old content is archived or refreshed. Manage incoming mail and respond in a timely manner.

Managing and executing webinars, Twitter chats and other digital events.

Editing, curating and posting photos, videos, etc. during and after events.

Tracking, analyzing, and measuring data to spot trends, content needs, audiences, growth areas; and proposing actionable ideas to better serve key audiences.

Engaging with members and followers on social media platforms, and using that interaction to gain insight into how Opportunity Nation can meet the needs of its network.

Staying up-to-date on social media trends and making recommendations on how Opportunity Nation should best utilize new platforms and vehicles to reach key audiences.

Serving as project manager for digital initiatives; serving as a point of contact for vendors such as web developers, printers, and designers.

Producing simple graphics for use in social media, email blasts, newsletters, and website, as needed.

Facilitating email marketing and related tools, including posting content, pulling lists, updating records, and more.

Ensuring consistency of tone and editorial style.

Assuming other responsibilities, as assigned.

The creative and nimble communications team at Opportunity Nation has helped to shape and advance the national conversation about the pressing need to expand upward mobility in innovative ways. The campaign has played a leading role in driving the national dialogue on economic mobility and income inequality away from divisive rhetoric and toward bipartisan and cross-sector solutions that are grounded in data.

While a background in economic development and/or social justice issues is not required, the Digital Marketing Coordinator should be able to get up to speed quickly on issues related to the campaign’s work and be able to translate and message around them to various audiences as needed.

The Digital Marketing Coordinator collaborates with the communications team to strategize the public roll out of major data releases and events that have received widespread media coverage such as the annual Opportunity Index and the National Opportunity Summit.


The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent level of marketing and communications experience
  • Experience utilizing content management (CMS), email marketing systems and an understanding of basic HTML performing similar tasks related to this role
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Experience compiling, analyzing, and presenting social media analytics
  • Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks/activities simultaneously while maintaining quality
  • Ability to work efficiently, independently, and as part of a team; to communicate regularly; and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong proficiency in InDesign, social media platforms, Adobe Suite and an ability to adapt and learn new software and web-based systems
